FAQs - Answers to your questions
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE
Please travel via Hollerath (not via Giescheid).
Please arrive after 1 p.m. and depart before 12 noon. We are happy to discuss exceptions. If you do not have a subsequent booking, it is usually not a problem if you stay a little longer or park your car while you go for a hike. If you have booked and paid online, you do not need to check in or out with us. Just remember where your spot is and you will find the spot numbers on the stones in the ground. Arrivals after 10 p.m. are only possible in exceptional cases and by arrangement. All spontaneous bookers or overnight guests must please register at the front of the house.
CARS
Children and pedestrians have right of way here. Please always drive at walking speed on the square and only in the direction of the one-way street. Driving faster disturbs other guests, especially when dust is kicked up in dry conditions. From 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., there is a strict driving ban on the site. Cars must be parked in your parking space. To keep emergency routes clear, parking on the driveway is strictly prohibited.
LIGHTING ON THE SQUARE
We want to make it star park compliant and environmentally friendly. The site is not lit at night. Please bring a flashlight or cell phone with you when you go to the toilet. Ideally, a flashlight with red light. We would like to ask you to make sure that your campsite lighting emits as little light as possible at night so that we can all enjoy the wonderful starry sky.
DRONES
We do not allow drones to take off or land here. Firstly, they annoy us and other guests, and secondly, it would be too risky if one were to crash.
EMPTYING CAMPING TOILETS
can be emptied into a basin behind the toilet block in the courtyard and cleaned with a hose. Only sewage treatment plant-friendly sanitary additives (labeled with the Blue Angel) are permitted. There is no station for driving up and discharging black water.
GRAY WATER DISPOSAL & FRESH WATER
You can dispose of gray water at the rear of the toilet containers. You can also refill with fresh water there. The tap water is drinkable.
SHOWERS & TOILETS
The showers are clean but a little outdated, and you may have to wait a little from time to time because there is currently only one shower per gender. You can buy shower tokens from us (€1.50 = 6 minutes of shower time). As soon as we have all gotten through the coronavirus crisis and have some money again, we will work on this. The toilets are new and can be found at the front of the courtyard. We clean the toilets and showers daily. Please let us know if you notice any issues with cleanliness. We will take care of it immediately.
WASHING DISHES
You can find them behind the house and behind the toilet containers. Unfortunately, there is only cold water there. Please dispose of food scraps in the designated containers—we don't want the animals in the area to feed on our leftovers.
DOGS
are very welcome. Please keep dogs on a leash on the grounds, on all paths, and in the forest.
MUSIC
We all prefer to listen to nature or handmade music. If you really want to listen to music, please keep the volume down during the day so as not to disturb your neighbors. It's best to ask your neighbors if it's OK. Some people prefer to keep quiet rather than complain. The campsite should be quiet after 10 p.m.
MOBILE RECEPTION
It's very poor. There are very few places where T-Mobile and Vodafone customers can get reception. On the mountain (Hollerath, Ramscheid, or in Giescheid), everyone else can make calls and receive text messages using LTE again.
GARBAGE
It is best to produce as little waste as possible. If you do produce any waste, please separate it and sort it on the other side of the stream. We also collect returnable bottles there—the Hellenthal Scouts will be happy to receive your deposits. Please leave the site exactly as you found it. This applies in particular to cigarette butts, bottle caps, and broken glass.
ELECTRICITY
Each campsite can be connected to one of the power boxes. To do this, you will (usually) need a CEE plug. If you don't have one, we have a few adapters that you can borrow in exchange for your ID card or similar as a deposit. You can book one power connection per pitch. It is best to bring a 20 m cable with you, or even better a 40 m cable.
DRINKING WATER
Delicious drinking water fresh from the Oleftalsperre dam is currently only available at the front of the house. For larger groups, we can deliver a large canister directly to your camp.
WASHING MACHINE & DRYER
is not available at the moment. If you are completely soaked, please let us know and we will put your clothes in our dryer or wash them for you.
wireless local area network
For those who can't enjoy our lack of cell phone reception and want to stay connected to the outside world, there is free Wi-Fi of varying quality: in the beer garden and around the house. We only have one landline connection, so the bandwidth isn't great when the place is full.
