FAQs - Answers to your questions

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

Please come via Hollerath (not via Giescheid). Enter the following as an intermediate destination in your GPS: “Prethtalstr. 53, 53940 Hollerath.” Then just follow the road 2 km down the hill, and you’ll be there.

For camping, please arrive after 1 p.m. and depart before 12 p.m. We’re happy to discuss exceptions. If there’s no subsequent booking, it’s usually no problem if you stay a little longer or park your car while you go for another hike. If you’ve booked and paid online, you don’t need to check in or out with us. Just make a note of where your spot is; you’ll find the spot numbers marked on the stones in the ground. Arrivals after 10:00 p.m. are only possible in exceptional cases and by prior arrangement. All walk-in guests or overnight guests must please check in at the front desk.

If you have booked rental accommodations, please check in no earlier than 4:00 p.m. and check out by 12:00 p.m. We're happy to discuss any exceptions.

CARS

Children and all pedestrians have the right of way here. Please always drive at walking speed on the grounds and only in the direction of the one-way street. Driving faster disturbs other guests, especially when dry conditions kick up dust. From 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., driving is strictly prohibited on the grounds. Cars must be parked in your designated parking spot. To keep emergency access routes clear, parking on the road is strictly prohibited under any circumstances. Currently, there is no way to charge electric cars here. However, we are working on changing that.

LIGHTING ON THE SQUARE

We want to make it star park compliant and environmentally friendly. The site is not lit at night. Please bring a flashlight or cell phone with you when you go to the toilet. Ideally, a flashlight with red light. We would like to ask you to make sure that your campsite lighting emits as little light as possible at night so that we can all enjoy the wonderful starry sky.

DRONES

We do not allow drones to take off or land here. Firstly, they annoy us and other guests, and secondly, it would be too risky if one were to crash.

EMPTYING CAMPING TOILETS

can be emptied into a basin behind the toilet block in the courtyard and cleaned with a hose. Only sewage treatment plant-friendly sanitary additives (labeled with the Blue Angel) are permitted. There is no station for driving up and discharging black water.

GRAY WATER DISPOSAL & FRESH WATER

You can dispose of gray water at the rear of the toilet containers. You can also refill with fresh water there. The tap water is drinkable.

SHOWERS & TOILETS

There are a total of 8 showers and 16 restrooms available on the grounds. You may have to wait a little while from time to time; you can buy shower tokens from us (€1.50 = 6 minutes of shower time). We clean the restrooms and showers daily, and several times a day on weekends. Please let us know right away if you notice any issues with cleanliness. We’ll take care of it. Our team is passionate about making sure you have a great time. Please treat everyone with respect—this includes accompanying children who aren’t yet able to use the restroom on their own. Or at least checking to make sure everything went smoothly.

WASHING DISHES

You can get hot water at the front of the house and at the back by the shower units. Unfortunately, there is only cold water at the front of the house. Please dispose of food scraps in the designated containers—we don’t want local animals to feed on our leftovers.

DOGS

You are welcome to visit. Please keep your dogs on a leash on the grounds, on all paths, and in the woods. Dogs are not allowed on the playground or in the restrooms.

MUSIC

We all prefer to listen to nature or live music. If you really want to listen to music, please keep the volume low enough during the day so as not to disturb your neighbors. It’s best to ask your neighbors if it’s okay. Some people would rather get annoyed in silence than complain. The campground must be quiet after 10 p.m.

MOBILE RECEPTION

It's very poor. There are very few places where T-Mobile and Vodafone customers can get reception. On the mountain (Hollerath, Ramscheid, or in Giescheid), everyone else can make calls and receive text messages using LTE again.

GARBAGE

It’s best to produce as little waste as possible… If you do end up with any, please sort it and dispose of it on the other side of the stream. We also collect reusable bottles there. Please make sure to leave the area exactly as you found it. This applies especially to cigarette butts, bottle caps, broken glass, and candy wrappers.

Silence

We’re all here looking for some peace and quiet. On weekends, there are a lot of families at the campground, and things can get a bit livelier. During the week, it’s usually very quiet. We ask that you help keep things quiet as the evening goes on, especially when the kids get more excited, so your fellow campers aren’t bothered. Round up the little rascals around 9:00 p.m. and let things wind down. Starting at 10:00 p.m., everyone who wants to should be able to sleep in peace. This also applies to friends who want to stay up a little later.

ELECTRICITY

Each campsite can connect to one of the electrical boxes. To do this, you’ll (usually) need a CEE plug and an extension cord up to 50 meters long. You can book one electrical hookup per campsite.

DRINKING WATER

You can get fresh, delicious drinking water straight from the Oleftalsperre reservoir behind the house, next to the sinks, or at the back between the two shower containers.

WASHING MACHINE & DRYER

is not available at the moment. If you are completely soaked, please let us know and we will put your clothes in our dryer or wash them for you.

wireless local area network

For those who can't enjoy our lack of cell phone reception and want to stay connected to the outside world, there is free Wi-Fi of varying quality: in the beer garden and around the house. We only have one landline connection, so the bandwidth isn't great when the place is full.
